Latte & Me

Fall in Italy is rainy and chilly. During my travels in Rome, I filled up with many cups of lattes because they were light, delicious and gave me my caffeine burst. I had enough caffeine to last through my sight-seeing and shopping. I learned how to make the perfect cup while chatting with my server on one of my stops. It starts with great coffee!

DIY Lattes'

October 28, 2021

Like all things you put in your body, a good rule of thumb is to get the best quality you can source and afford. This is especially true when it comes to coffee since coffee beans are the most heavily sprayed crop we consume. This is why I found ways to curate 2 amazing coffee blends to make sure every sip is healthy and flavorful.

These recipes allows you to test your barista skills and creativity! You can add a wide variety of optional toppings to add more flavor and personality to your beverage. Such as, cinnamon, cardamom, honey, vanilla extract, hazelnut extract, cocoa powder, nutmeg, brown sugar. If you happen to have flavored syrups at home, you can also try your hand at making flavored lattes as well. Just add them into the warm milk and coffee mixture before you top it with the remaining foam.

Cinnamon Coconut Latte

Ingredients

·       12 ounces medium-dark roast blend brewed coffee (we suggest Ren’s Stress Less Blend)

·       3 tsp. coconut oil

·       ½ tsp. ground cinnamon

·       ¼ cup unsweetened coconut milk or oat milk

·       ⅛ tsp pure vanilla extract

·       1 tsp. pure honey

Directions

1.     Brew coffee in a coffee maker or French press.

2.     Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on high for 15-30 seconds until creamy and frothy.

3.     Pour into a coffee mug, dust with additional cinnamon and enjoy.

Traditional Latte

Tools: Coffee pot, saucepan, milk frother or whisk, and mug

Ingredients: There are two main ingredients needed for your latte: coffee and milk. You have a few options when it comes to which type of milk and coffee to use. Depending on what you want your latte to taste like.

  • Coffee: Traditional lattes use espresso for caffeine and the coffee flavor. But if you don’t have an espresso maker, you can also use a strongly brewed coffee for the same effect. We recommend the Ren’s Stress Less Blend for a rich, smooth taste.

  • Milk: You can use whatever kind of milk you prefer! If you are looking for a rich, creamy latte, use 2% milk or creamy oat milk. If you’re looking for skinny coffee, give skim or 1% a try. For dairy-free alternatives try almond milk, rice milk, or soy milk or oat milk.

Directions:

  1. Brew up a cup of your favorite coffee.

  2. As the coffee is brewing, heat 1 to 1½ cups of milk in a saucepan.

  3. Froth your milk. If you don’t have a milk frother, you can do this easily with a whisk! To do this, vigorously whisk the heating milk into a froth ( you will get a bit of an arm workout!)

  4. Pour the coffee into your favorite mug, leaving a bit of room at the top for your frothy milk.

  5. Pour the milk over the coffee, holding some froth back with a spoon for a topping.

  6. Once you have only froth left, finish up the pour by layering the froth on the tippy top of the beverage. You can use as little or as much froth as you prefer. More froth will make it more like a cappuccino, whereas less froth will keep it as a traditional latte.

  7. If you like it sweet, add some sugar, vanilla extract, a dusting of cinnamon or honey.

  8. Enjoy
