TRANSFORM YOUR VASE

NO GREEN THUMB NEEDED

Photos from my garden. Arrangement includes rosemary, sage, oregano, basil, lavender, thyme, mint, hydrangeas.

Gardening Tips

June 21, 2021

Nothing's better than a fresh bouquet of herbs + flowers to flavor your food & brighten your day!🌿 Plant some so that when you're ready to cook you can cut and enjoy. No pesticides or chemicals. Just pure and simple ingredients and you know what you’re putting into your food.

You don't need a special garden or large space to grow your own herbs. Here’s how I grow mine:

  • Plant them in already existing flower gardens; they blend nicely and add extra beauty.

  • Purchase a few large planters with proper drainage, add organic potting soil, then transplant your herb plants. You can find them at local nurseries and hardware stores. Tend and care for and watch them grow.

  • Plant your own green onions (scallions) - before using, trim off the bulbs (about 1/2 inch) keeping the roots intact then stick into a pot of soil. They will keep producing over and over. You will always have fresh green onions on hand.

Here are some of my favorite herbs that I always have in my gardens and pots:

green onions, oregano, sage, thyme, rosemary, basil, cilantro, parsley. They go well in almost every dish. When the summer season starts to wind down, you can pick them and keep for use during the winter by storing in freezer safe baggies and freeze. The color will change, but the flavor will remain. Keep frozen and add directly into the pot when ready.

How to create a refreshing floral arrangement from your garden:

Fill a vase with water and some ice cubes (this helps keep the arrangement fresh longer) cut stems of herbs and flowers then arrange in the vase.

It makes a great addition to a kitchen as the fragrance helps to eliminate cooking aromas. Plus, you can pluck herbs from your vase when cooking while enjoying its beauty at the same time. This makes a nice gift too.

Happy Gardening!
